Technology that holds up for people doing hard things.

I'm Tulio K. Cardozo. I'm a Staff Infrastructure Engineer at The Last Mile, a co-founder of T12 Labs, and I speak about second chances and fair-chance hiring. More than a decade of building, securing, and running the systems small teams depend on.

How I got here, briefly.

What hasn't changed since my first client: I believe in long-term relationships, and I own my recommendations all the way through to the result.

  1. Inside

Seven years in state prison. I taught myself computers there, and became a founding graduate of The Last Mile's entrepreneurship program at San Quentin.

  2. Starting over2012 to 2016

From zero to a technology career in San Francisco: business analyst at the KickLabs accelerator, lead developer at LaunchPodium, freelance WordPress developer, and Hack Reactor's JavaScript program. On the side, I taught web design and coding in San Francisco jail and probation programs.

  3. Back at San Quentin2017 to 2018

Technical Manager for The Last Mile Works, leading web-development teams of graduates inside San Quentin, and the first credentialed employee authorized to work in the same facility where I had been incarcerated.

  4. Keeping it running2018 to 2025

IT Manager at The Last Mile: a private intranet on Google Cloud, network security that satisfied every state partner, and a fleet of more than 600 macOS and ChromeOS computers in classrooms behind walls.

  5. Nowsince 2025

Staff Infrastructure Engineer at The Last Mile, owning the cloud platform and the zero-trust network that keep air-gapped correctional facilities connected. Co-founder of T12 Labs, building intelligent infrastructure for service organizations.

What I do

Hands-on work in the unglamorous middle, where things actually get fixed and kept fixed.

Infrastructure and networks

Google Cloud architecture, Terraform and GitOps, and Palo Alto Networks zero-trust networking that keeps classrooms connected inside air-gapped correctional facilities, where uptime and security are not optional.

Websites and web systems

New and existing builds, performance audits, integrations, and automation. A specialty: recovering business websites that have declined from neglect or malware.

Analytics and conversion

Google Analytics setups you can trust, conversion funnels, A/B tests, and the SEO fundamentals that make a website measurable.

Teams and change that sticks

Leading web-development teams, mentoring engineers on cloud-native practice and reliability, and building the change management that keeps an improvement alive after the project ends.

His professionalism and enthusiasm for what he does are exceptional.

Speaking

I talk about criminal justice reform, fair-chance hiring, and entrepreneurship, from the perspective of someone who has sat on both sides of the table. Available through The Last Mile Speakers Bureau or directly.

We're not just a prison teaching program; we're teaching people how to make the jump and be free before they're released.
